 Disaster struck in the AA/Fuel
Dragster final round. Jack Harris (near lane) and Rance McDaniel
were charging down the Firebird quarter mile when a couple hundred
feet before the finish, the Champion Speed Shop dragster encountered
an engine violent explosion and fire, immediately followed by
a sharp right hand turn (while racing down the right lane) into
the concrete wall just before the finish line. McDaniels
car then rolled multiple times. McDaniel was airlifted from Firebird
and taken to Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Boise. McDaniel was
knocked out in the crash with and suffered head injuries. The
race win was awarded to Harris by virtue of the Champion boundary
