"War Wagon"
 The
Sheriff and his Posse pose with the War Wagon at the 2002 Nitro
Nationals at Sonoma.
 "The Deputy"
(Keith) and Jack fill up the Nitro Thunder fuel tank with - you
guessed it - nitro.
Unlike many of the other cars,
Team Harris do their pit warm-ups with the engine on race conditions
which includes a very high percentage of nitromethane. In order
to breathe - literally - the crew wears full face respirator
masks to survive the nitro fumes that collect under the awning.
Jack will be the first to tell you
that without his crew what he does in the seat is useless. When
all is said and done, a race car is only as good as the people
who work on it and the Nitro Thunder crew is among the best.
 Between rounds the Posse
is focused to the task at hand - getting the car ready to meet
the call for the next round of racing. Other crews often falter
in this area, not so at the War Wagon.
Arguably the most important guy on
the crew is "the diver" who makes sure the weakest
link (bottom end) is race ready every time the engine fires.
On Team Harris, this job belongs to Jason Mott and he does it
very well.

 Pomona, 2001
After qualifying at the 2001 NHRA
50th Anniversary Nationals at Pomona, the team got the car ready
for Sunday and had time to relax.
Harris is one of the most
popular and accessible drivers on the circuit and is readily
available for autographs and photos. Here he hams it up with
Pammy Utterback - a nostalgia event regular.
 Routine Maintenance
 Everybody's gunnin for The Sheriff.
One of the fast guns lookin' to out draw Harris is the Champion
Speed Shop gang. Here they serve warning by putting a badge in
the hand of their Mighty Mouse (referring to their small block
Chevy engine) mascot. The Sheriff and his Posse just set more
mouse traps (below).
What do they say ... all work
and no play .... It seems that the Deputy Rayce found a fan at
the 2001 Goodguys Indy Nationals. Them Midwest gals are HEALTHY!
 Rayce checking the bearings
- RIGHT!
 How's this for a "diver"? |
